U.S. Naval Update Map: April 1, 2009



Carrier Strike Groups

* The USS Dwight D. Eisenhower is currently located in the northern Arabian Sea supporting maritime security operations in the 5th Fleet area of responsibility (AOR).
* The USS Theodore Roosevelt transited the Suez Canal on March 27 and is currently under way in the Mediterranean Sea in the 6th Fleet AOR en route to its home port of Naval Station Norfolk, Va.
* The USS Ronald Reagan returned to its home port of San Diego on March 26 after completing sustainment exercises (SUSTAINEX) in the eastern Pacific Ocean.
* The USS John C. Stennis is under way in the western Pacific Ocean conducting scheduled operations as part of its six-month deployment to the region.
* The USS Abraham Lincoln is currently conducting routine operations in the eastern Pacific Ocean after undergoing scheduled repairs during a Carrier Incremental Availability.
* The USS Nimitz returned to its home port of San Diego on March 27 after completing its Fleet Replacement Squadron Carrier Qualifications exercises off the coast of Southern California.

Expeditionary Strike Groups

* The USS Iwo Jima returned to its home port of Naval Station Norfolk on March 27 after completing a scheduled seven-month deployment to the 5th Fleet and 6th Fleet AORs.
* The USS Boxer is currently under way in the Gulf of Aden conducting maritime security operations in the 5th Fleet AOR. The USS Boxer is also the flagship of Combined Task Force 151, a counterpiracy operation to detect and deter piracy in the 5th Fleet AOR.

Carrier Strike Groups

* The USS Theodore Roosevelt CSG is currently located in the northern Arabian Sea conducting maritime security operations for the 5th Fleet Area of Responsibility (AOR) which includes Iraq and Afghanistan.
* The USS John C. Stennis is under way on a six-month deployment to the western Pacific.
* The USS Nimitz is conducting Final Evaluation Problem (FEP) exercises in the Southern California Operating Area as part of the scheduled workup for its next scheduled deployment.
* The USS Dwight D. Eisenhower is currently under way in the Arabian Sea supporting ongoing security operations in the 5th Fleet AOR.
* The USS Ronald Reagan is conducting sustainment exercises in the eastern Pacific Ocean.
* The USS Harry S. Truman returned to its home port of Norfolk, Virginia on March 23 after completing carrier qualifications exercises in the Western Atlantic.

Expeditionary Strike Groups

* USS Boxer ESG is currently supporting maritime security operations in the 5th Fleet AOR as the flagship for Combined Task Force 151 (CTF-151).
* The USS Bataan is under way in the Atlantic Ocean conducting routine operations.
* The USS Bonhomme Richard is currently under way in the Southern California Operating Area conducting routine training operations for a deployment to the Western Pacific later this year.
* The USS Iwo Jima ESG is scheduled to return to its home port of Naval Station Norfolk, Virgina on March 27 after completing a seven-month deployment to the 5th and 6th Fleet AORs supporting maritime security operations. Elements of the ESG began returning as early as March 21 including the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) based in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

* The USS Eisenhower is transiting the Mediterranean Sea to participate in a scheduled rotation of forward-deployed forces conducting international maritime security operations in the 5th Fleet AOR.

Carrier Strike Groups

* The USS Theodore Roosevelt CSG is currently located in the northern Arabian Sea conducting maritime security operations for the 5th Fleet area of responsibility (AOR), which includes Iraq and Afghanistan.
* The USS John C. Stennis is currently under way in the western Pacific Ocean after departing from Hong Kong on Feb. 21.
* The USS Ronald Reagan is located in the Southern California Operating Area following the conclusion of Fleet Replacement Squadron Carrier Qualifications on Feb. 24.
* The USS Nimitz is located in the Southern California Operating Area following the conclusion of Tailored Ship’s Training Availability (TSTA) on Feb. 24.
* The USS Harry S. Truman is currently under way in the western Atlantic Ocean following the conclusion of Carrier Qualifications on Feb. 24. The USS Truman will undergo various scheduled sea trials in the coming weeks.

Expeditionary Strike Groups

* The USS Iwo Jima ESG is conducting maritime security operations in the 5th Fleet AOR as of Feb. 14.
* USS Boxer ESG departed Maldives on Feb. 24 following the conclusion of Exercise Coconut Grove 2009, a bilateral, military-to-military and humanitarian civic assistance engagement with the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) designed to strengthen bilateral ties and interoperability between the services.
* The USS Essex is currently under way in the Gulf of Thailand after completing the joint multinational force Cobra Gold 2009 exercises Feb. 17.
* The USS Bataan is conducting routine training operations off the coast of the southeastern United States as part of a scheduled workup for a deployment later this year.

Carrier Strike Groups

* The USS Theodore Roosevelt CSG is currently located in the northern Arabian Sea conducting maritime security operations for the 5th Fleet area of responsibility (AOR), which includes Iraq and Afghanistan.
* The USS John C. Stennis CSG is currently under way in the 7th Fleet AOR in the East China Sea with Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 9 and Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 21 conducting routine operations.
* The USS Abraham Lincoln returned to its home port of Naval Base San Diego on Feb. 6 after completing sustainment exercises in the Southern California Operating Area.
* The USS George H. W. Bush’s sea trials have been delayed one month until the end of February due to discrepancies revealed in operational testing before the carrier was to begin the trials.

Expeditionary Strike Groups

* The USS Iwo Jima ESG is currently conducting maritime security operations in the 5th Fleet AOR.
* The USS Boxer ESG is currently under way in the 7th Fleet AOR conducting training operations with the 13th MEU off the coast of Guam.
* The USS Essex is located in the Gulf of Thailand participating in the joint multinational force Cobra Gold 2009 exercises with participating countries Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea and Australia.
* The USS Bataan is conducting Composite Unit Training Exercises (COMPUTEX) off the coast of North Carolina as part of a scheduled workup for a deployment later this year.
